Clava Cairns - Outlander
Clava Cairns, dating back 4,000 years, is the inspiration for the legendary television series - Outlander. These prehistoric standing stones have been well preserved and contain a Bronze Age set of graves and passages.
Craigh Na Dun are the Outlander standing stones that swept Claire back in time to 1743, where she falls in love with the Jacobite, Jamie Fraser. This idea was based on the Clava Cairns. One of the burial chambers contains a split stone, so be careful if you are passing through and the stones begin to ‘buzz’ – proceed with caution if you want to stay this side of 1743!
